Harnessing AI for Education and Mental Health

On September 14, 2025, the UNA-USA San Fernando Valley Chapter and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) co-hosted a virtual seminar, “Harnessing AI for Education and Mental Health,” featuring distinguished speaker Dr. Marina A. Badillo-Diaz, LCSW, and facilitated by Dr. Soraya Fallah, Vice President of UNA-USA SFV. Welcoming remarks were delivered by David Tuckman (UNA-USA) and Ginny Hatfield (AAUW), who emphasized the importance of addressing the intersection of technology, education, and mental health. Dr. Badillo-Diaz, founder of MABD Consulting and author of The AI Social Worker blog, shared expert insights and live demonstrations of AI tools, exploring both opportunities and challenges in education and mental health through the lens of SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). The session highlighted issues of confidentiality, academic integrity, youth and technology, and the environmental impact of AI, while sparking thoughtful dialogue among participants. This successful collaboration underscored how AI can advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals when guided by equity, responsibility, and ethical practice.
