AI Ethics in Social Work
In this discussion, I dive into the rapid boom of AI scribes across clinical and hospital settings—from surgeons using automated note-taking during appointments to everyday practice integration. I break down the critical differences between free AI tools (which retain and own client data) versus agency-contracted, HIPAA-compliant platforms, and why practitioners must always review AI-generated notes before signing off.
Moving beyond clinical practice, I examine how AI intersects with environmental justice, highlighting how data center resource demands impact vulnerable communities—making responsible AI use a macro social work issue. Finally, drawing from my K-12 education work, I highlight promising applications of AI as an effective learning scaffold for multilingual learners and students with diverse needs.
